AIRBAG & LANDING SYSTEMS

For UAVs carrying sensitive and expensive equipment, the installation of a damping system with one or more airbags is highly recommended. Cameras, for example, often cost significantly more than the UAV itself. Airbag systems can be designed either for emergencies or for standardized landings, with the latter focusing on ease of use and reusability of the materials. Airbags are electronically activated via independent circuits and are filled by one or more blowers shortly after the rescue system deploys, during the UAV's descent. The filling process takes only 2-5 seconds, depending on the size. Properly placed and sized vent valves on the airbags prevent rebound of the UAV and ensure relatively constant energy absorption during impact. The design of the airbag is always customized to fit the shape, size, and weight of the UAV, resulting in bespoke development and production. Airbag systems can reduce impact G-forces to between 4.5g and 7g. Our largest airbag to date was developed for a 140 kg drone for Airbus.

Integration into the fuselage

Planning

Your requirements are directly incorporated into the design of the system. The planning includes the construction of a 3D model and the analysis of the fuselage structure for the positioning of the airbags. Typically, they are installed beneath the fuselage.

Damping evaluation

For the real-life test, we build customized functional prototypes with airbags. The subsequent drop tests will demonstrate the maximum damping potential of your landing system.

installation

The technical integration is carried out directly in the UAV's fuselage. Any deviations from the 3D model can be accommodated, ensuring there will be no issues with the installation and deployment of the airbag.

Use in emergency situations

Standby mode

The system is in standby mode during operation and is powered by the integrated lithium-ion battery. An LED indicates the current status after initialization.

Activation

For testing, the deployment can be triggered using a wired remote control. In an emergency situation, it is activated via an electronic signal.

Deactivation

After the preset setting, the system automatically deactivates. Additionally, we offer manual deactivation via a switch.

The assemblies

Airbag

Up to a weight of 140 kg, PASA has already designed and tested airbag solutions in several projects. Would you like to incorporate an airbag into your UAV? Contact us now so we can provide you with helpful advice and a quote.
Rescue systems with central lines (ending with 'ML') are better suited for openings at lower flight speeds starting from 0 km/h and at lower altitudes.

Blower

Our solution for opening a UAV airbag involves a high-performance blower with integrated power supply. Control is managed manually or electronically via a wired remote control. We handle the setup and programming for you.

Printed parts & equipment

Every fuselage is different—therefore, we have chosen the technology of the future. 3D prints can be customized to your needs and produced quickly and efficiently in small quantities at moderate prices.
