UAV rescue parachutes

Depending on the requirements profile, a rescue parachute can have one of the following basic shapes. The decisive factors for this are the flight speed during deployment and the minimum flight altitude. PASA distinguishes between Circular, Circular-S, Circular-ML, and Cross-ML

“ML” or “S”, what are the differences?

Rescue parachute feature “ML” – with center line

Structure
The central line (ML) connects the main line to the center of the parachute. This allows us to define the depth and shape of the rescue parachute.

Deployment speed
Suitable for up to 100 km/h horizontal flight speed as a landing parachute (for multiple uses) or up to 120 km/h as an emergency rescue system.

Rescue parachute feature “S” – with slider

Construction
A slider is a round fabric plate that slides down along the suspension lines and slows down the opening shock. The smooth opening with minimal g-forces is particularly advantageous for UAVs with a takeoff weight over 10 kg.

Deployment speed
Suitable for up to 300 km/h. It can cover a very wide range of speeds.

Minimum altitude and flight speed

The minimum deployment altitude for this type of UAV

When selecting the rescue system, it is essential to consider many factors, including primarily the deployment speed over ground and altitude above sea level. The following graphic shows the minimum deployment altitudes that should not be undershot even with an advantageous design of the drone.

The lowest and highest deployment speeds

Decisive for the selection of the rescue system is also the lowest and highest maximum deployment speed of the drone above sea level. At speeds over 100 km/h, rescuers should use sliders (with an 'S' at the end).
Rescue systems with central lines (with 'ML' at the end) are more suitable for openings at lower flight speeds starting from 0 km/h and lower altitudes.

CIRCULAR / CIRCULAR - S

The rapid opening of the CIRCULAR is a significant advantage for deployments at low altitudes. Easy packing and the option to upgrade with a slider to CIRCULAR-S for horizontal high-speed deployments over 100 km/h make it well-suited for semi-professional applications.

CIRCULAR ML

The rapid opening of the CIRCULAR - ML is a significant advantage for deployments at low altitudes. The central line allows for higher payloads and lower descent rates at the same surface area.

CIRCULAR - MINI

The rapid opening of the CIRCULAR MINI is a clear advantage for operations at low altitudes. Its extremely light weight and compact packing size, along with its use with very small drones or as a drag chute for larger rescue systems, make it a very cost-effective all-rounder for horizontal speed operations under 100 km/h.

CROSS ML

Low pendulum inclination and high payload capacity (or lower descent rates) are not an issue even under challenging conditions such as crosswinds. The 'CROSS' is the ideal model for professional applications, with a slightly increased packing volume (about 10%).

Adjustments to your requirements

Rate of descent

Is your UAV used in special environmental conditions? We can calculate the appropriate canopy size based on temperature and density altitude during operation.

Deployment speed

Should your project require special equipment? We can test systems up to speeds of 300 km/h.

Accessories

After consultation with the design department, we can also manufacture custom textile components.

Canopy weight

For projects with particularly low payloads, we can use fabric material with 22 g/m². However, deployment speeds are limited to a maximum of 70 km/h in this case.

Lines

Do you want your UAV to be positioned in a specific way during landing? The right line set will keep everything aligned.

Container

Does your canopy compartment have special dimensions? We can manufacture the appropriate sleeve/container for you.
